Rugeley Rifle Club origins began when it was a shooting section of Rugeley Rangers which was formed in 1879, when it was a militia as a defence of the realm volunteer regiment.  The regiment was located on Cannock Chase during the intervening period they shot at various locations within the Cannock Chase area.

The current building and range complex was purpose built at Rugeley and opened in 1971 and since has gone through various stages of improvement.

The club is available for all persons including disabled, and there is a strong accent to encourage new people to join.  We cater for all forms of competitive forms of shooting within the limits of the law up to the point of .22 calibre or rifles or pistols.

The ranges are certified for uses of 0.22 rimfire as well as air gun and are open as the following schedule:

  • Monday evenings: 0.22" rim fire shooting

  • Tuesday evenings: air gun 'open to the public' air gun shooting

  • Wednesday evening: air gun competition shooting

  • Thursday evening: 0.22" sporting rifle competition shooting

  • Friday evening: 0.22" rimfire shooting

  • Sunday morning: 0.22" rimfire shooting

In 2006, the club hopes to add a purpose built 10m air rifle and air pistol range to accommodate this successful and growing air section within the club.

Whilst the club encourages keen competitiveness, this is within a friendly atmosphere and members can take part in the enjoyment of the shooting experience at what ever level they wish.

The club also offers the use of a selection of good quality 0.22" rimfire rifles, Air rifles and Air Pistols, these are free for use of any member or probationary member of the club.
