RUGELEY RIFLE CLUB NEWSLETTER - JULY 2010

Honours

Rugeley Rifle Club have currently 3 members who can wear the ENGLAND badge namely; Martyn Buttery, Liam Webster and Ian Hookham, with 4 members who are participating in the G B squads and knocking on the door for England representation. They are Ian Marsden and Mark Edge being ‘fast tracked for the para Olympics G B Squad with Nataliya Manskover women’s junior G B squad and Bill Yates for the NSRA International series and he attained X class status at Bisley in 2009 making him rank amongst the best in the country.

Other honours are Martyn Buttery as England captain for both seniors and juniors for the ‘Home’ series and Liam Webster has been asked to be England team secretary for the ‘Scottish’ meeting.

This is a remarkable situation for a club like ours and is due to the dedication of these members and the fact that we can offer the facilities for them to train and compete.

Range Developments

Leading on from the above whilst we have developed our site to provide the facilities we currently enjoy there is need to improve further and stimulate the notion of training as the way forward for further future honours. With this in mind the club is applying for planning permission to possibly erect another building similar to the existing 10 meter air gun range which will encompass the existing 50 meter range (points 8, 9 &10) firing points.

The purpose of this building is to provide a training room where members will be able to use such items as a Scatt training system, the use of wall mirrors to observe their position and where instructors and coaches can conduct training sessions both on the theory of shooting as well as dry firing and live firing. It is envisaged that we will install the remaining 3 automatic target changing units (10 Meter) in this building and by use of a pulley system the targets and bench can be set at positions which will enable for the first time a 3 position capability for air gun. (This is a discipline which although is shot in Europe and USA has yet to be adopted in UK but will be one for the near future). The building would also encompass the 50 meter firing point and here we intend in the future to have automatic target changing facilities which is in line with ISSF rules.

Maintenance

On the weekend of 8th& 9th May we had a work party to do maintenance on the indoor range which was a major exercise to test all the wiring which entailed totally stripping down all lighting units, replacing tubes and starters, followed by a deep clean of all lighting units and the range generally. We had a good turn out and additional work was done on the outdoor ranges for the target frames and repairs to the outer walls. All in All a very productive weekend.. Thanks to all the members that gave their time to get the ranges back into prime condition.

Publicity

Earlier this year we were approached by ELEY Ltd as they were about to publish their 2010 Product Guide and they had decided that in addition the up to date activities of world class competitors they should feature the activities of Rifle clubs as this was the area where considerable demand for their products came from. A professional photo shoot was organized and the results can be seen in pages 16 and 17 of Eley’s Product Guide 2010.

Administration

And finally the Rugeley Rifle Club Operations Manual has been updated and with some additional new content and all members should acquaint themselves with the manual.
