RUGELEY RIFLE CLUB NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 2009
The summer outdoor season has drawn to a close and indoor shooting (except for those hardy folk) beckons. Which leads me on to the first item, the indoor 25-yard range update.
Your management committee approved the upgrade report at its March meeting with a budget of £2,500. The basis of the upgrade was based on the new manuals produced by the NSRA covering physical range requirements and operational needs.
The work was started at the end of the last winter season and a series of work parties during the summer were undertaken. The items attended to, included the following:
• Overhall of the butts including new angled bullet stop plates
• Rebuild of the butts support woodwork
• New Linatex rubber curtain (this alone cost £974.00)
• New exhaust fans (2), together with the necessary new wiring, drilling of air inlet holes into the indoor range, to meet the air change requirements. (6 to 10 air changes of the indoor range volume)
• Fitting of a new fire escape door in the range
• Provision of additional wiring for new range warning lights (red for danger in addition to the existing green for safe to go forward of the firing point.)
• After all work done a deep cleaning exercise of the range was done, which meant that the light panels in the ceiling had to be removed and cleaned, as well as all range target light fitting cleaned, all ledges wiped clean
• Finally the range floor swept using sawdust damped with a dilute solution of tri-sodium phosphate.
A small team of volunteers whom the club thanks for their hard work and dedication carried out this large undertaking. So we now look forward to a successful winter season.
10-members of the club attended Bisley week and it was enjoyed by all, some acquitting themselves better than others. Notable amongst us was Bill Yates who came second in A Class and has been promoted to X class and he also won the champion of champions trophy at the Staffordshire open meeting the week before Bisley.

On a broader note, 5 Rugeley members shot in the County sextet team where the county obtained its best result in 22 years coming 13 out of 28 teams entered.
Whilst the weather kept mainly fine the wind was more than frisky and tested many a good shot not to get some flyers. Next year we hope to persuade more members to attend and pit themselves against the Bisley conditions, which is quite an education.
Finally may I remind members that this years AGM is on Wednesday 30th September at Wharf Road opening at 8 PM. Please refer to the notice board for details of the agenda and where nominations are to be registered for officers and committee members for the coming year. In addition to voting in the new Management committee (6 officers and 9 committee members) the meeting decides on the subscription level for 2009/2010. (Note only full members have a vote i.e. associate and probationary members do not have the right of voting.)
It is your club so please arrange to attend this important meeting.
